Posted on 13th July 2007
An independent school in Bath has celebrated its 455th Founder's Day with a service at Bath Abbey.
Established by Royal Charter on July 12th 1552, King Edward's School, an independent co-educational institution, has a tradition of providing bursaries for some of the city's less affluent children, reports the Bath Chronicle.
To mark the day the High Sheriff of Somerset David Medlock, Mayor of Bath Steven King and a number of local councillors participated in a procession from the school to the abbey.
According to the newspaper, the event also saw the school's year seven pupils take a trip to see the original charter, which is currently housed by Bath and North East Somerset Council.
In related news, the school's year eight pupils recently participated in a World Feast Day, which included a number of tasks aimed at raising awareness of trade issues and the distribution of resources.
