Windermere Preparatory School is thrilled to have been recognised for its commitment to adventure learning by a UK charity.The Lakes private school has become the UK's first accredited Adventure Learning School (ALS), an accolade that has been warmly welcomed by Headmaster Ben Freeman.
Speaking to the North West Mail, he explained: "We want to use our pupils' natural sense of adventure to encourage them to explore and investigate, by forging links across our curriculum so that the various subjects use each other.
"In particularly we aim to incorporate our unique adventure programme into the various academic schemes."
Windermere's 2012 Independent School Inspectors report rated the institution excellent overall, with particular praise for the focus on extra-curricular provision.
The inspectors highlighted the focus on adventure and forest programmes, which encourage independent learning and assist in the development of confidence and self belief.
Windermere's physical adventure exercises were also praised for the numerous benefits pupils get from taking part.
