One of the themes that emerged from the Independent Association of Prep Schools Conference was the vulnerability of “stand alone” prep schools in the current economic climate.
With the government intent on establishing some 200 new primary academies next year and the nascent free school movement, should independent prep schools worry that parents may prefer to send their children elsewhere or that senior schools might opt for partnerships with the new primary academies?

My teenage daughter has no hang ups – everything she owns is on the floor. Come the day to return to school, she sweeps everything up and stuffs it unceremoniously into a suitcase and numerous plastic bags. Children at school can have a lot of expensive belongings these days – laptop, mobiles, iPads, musical instruments and sports equipment, not to mention all their clothes.
