Partnership scheme will build bridges
Wellington College is pioneering the initiative that has seen under-privileged adolescents from Burnley spending time at the prestigious private school¸ with a group of Wellingtonians due to make a return trip to Burnley in March.
Master of Wellington Anthony Seldon told the Observer that he believes the partnership is a way to combat the "triumphalism of separateness".
He noted that he has a "desire" to build links between people with a range of different backgrounds.
"The problem with bursaries is that they cherry pick¸ denuding the state schools of the brightest and best¸" the paper quoted him as adding.
Last month Mr Seldon told the Guild of Educators that paying more attention to the general wellbeing of pupils will boost their academic performance.
